Mezzotint with Ray Dennis

A one-day course taught by Ray Dennis, highly skilled and experienced, international mezzotint artist. As a specialist medium, this course may be better suited to those with experience of other intaglio processes.
Mezzotint, requires no acid and is literally translated in Italian as 'half tone', enabling engravers to produce a range of fine tones across an intaglio plate. A Rocker is used to apply a ground of burrs across a copper plate until the whole surface resembles fine sand paper, which will hold a deep black tone of ink. The image is produced by progressively scraping and burnishing away this surface to create a range of tones from black through to white. The image is generally tonal rather than linear.

Materials - inks, cleaning materials, muslin and a small pre-rocked plate are all included in the course fee.
Larger plates will be available to purchase on the day or to order.
Paper is not included, this can be purchased from the studio.
